Instead of rewarding Timonfey for his efforts, the plants treats him as a scapegoat, offering no compensation to him or his family. Desperate to provide security for his wife and son, Timofey steals a small amount of Pu-239 - weapons-grade Plutonium- and head to Moscow to sell it on the black market. Caught up in the “new Russia” of hoods and hookers, Timofey struggles to make the sales; his efforts resulting in deadly consequences.

Summary of Movie
Archie Bunker’s Place followed Norman Lear’s long-running hit sitcom All in the Family with a largely new cast of characters surrounding Carroll O’Connor’s beloved bigot from Queens, Archie Bunker. Jean Stapleton, reprising her role as Archie’s wife, Edith, occasionally appeared in the new show for continuity’s sake, but was gone by the second season. (Archie Bunker’s Place ran from 1979 to 1983.) Seen much more often was young Danielle Brisbois as Archie’s feisty niece, Stephanie, who moved into the Bunker home toward the end of All in the Family’s duration.
The “place” in the series title is not, in fact, Archie’s house but rather the saloon he bought into with barkeep Harry Snowden (Jason Wingreen), a development that also happened toward the conclusion of the previous series. Happy to have his own business, Archie still finds plenty to grouse about, not least of all the opinions and private affairs of his regular patrons (as well as Harry). Among the faces one is likely to find at Archie Bunker’s Place at any time of the day or night are old pal and neighbor Barney Hefner (Allan Melvin) and Mr. Van Ranseleer (Bill Quinn), whose blindness seems to intensify his focus on surrounding conversations. (He’s good at inserting the uninvited zinger in other people’s dialogue.) The Complete First Season begins with something unexpected, however: Harry wants to sell his stake in the bar. Unable to raise the cash, Archie watches with great discontent from the sidelines as Murray Klein (Martin Balsam), a complete stranger, buys Harry out and becomes a partner. Archie and Murray’s initially rocky relationship becomes more stable over time, and the two even develop a bond of trust and shared insight. Other highlights of the season include an episode in which kindly Edith takes a job helping patients at a psychiatric hospital (much to Archie’s chagrin); a two-part Thanksgiving tale featuring daughter Gloria (Sally Struthers) and her husband Mike (Rob Reiner), who pay a visit following Mike’s dismissal from his teaching job in California; and stories starring Estelle Parsons (as Barney’s sexy ex-wife) and Sammy Davis Jr. in a follow-up to one of the most popular All in the Family episodes. –Tom Keogh

Philibert spent a period filming the rhythms and activities within a one-room schoolhouse in France’s rural Auvergne region, where a soft-spoken teacher of 35 years, Georges Lopez, instructs pre-middle school children of varying ages in everything from reading to the making of crepes. The tall, mesmerizing Lopez, nearing retirement, is both a formidable and loving presence in his classroom, and the bucolic remoteness of his school has a way of amplifying such ordinary student dramas as fights, lagging grades, and painful shyness. Philibert gets a lot of mileage out of the antics of a loveable kid named Jojo, the decaying friendship of two older boys, and the grief of a young man whose father has cancer. Summary of Movie
Two disparate media make felicitous bedfellows in A Bloody Show, a performance by singer-songwriter John Wesley Harding and various collaborators: Misfortune, his critically-acclaimed 2005 novel (written under his real name, Wesley Stace; Stace’s nom de musique, was taken from a recording of that name by Bob Dylan, who himself copped it from 19th Century American gunfighter John Wesley Hardin); and Songs of Misfortune, a selection of tunes mentioned in the book and recorded that same year by Harding and his a cappella quartet, the Love Hall Tryst. This straightforward, simply-staged Seattle gig, organized in barely a week and included in that city’s annual Bumbershoot festival, features readings from the book, principally by Harding and fellow Brit muso Robyn Hitchcock, interspersed with songs from the album performed by the Tryst and a Harding-led rock band known as the Minstrel in the Galleries, with occasional accompaniment by a string quartet. The music comes mostly from traditional British sources, and thus is filled with tales of murder, adultery, and other eternal sins, a fact that the author-musician acknowledges with droll understatement (”We’re going to be entering the infanticide portion of the set fairly shortly,” he wryly warns the family crowd). Those songs and Leonard Cohen’s “Joan of Arc” are masterfully rendered by the singers, bolstered by the use of acoustic guitars, mandolin, and hurdy-gurdy; the rock band, meanwhile, bears a passing resemblance to folk-rock pioneers Fairport Convention even while falling well short of that lofty standard. It’s quite an undertaking; while Harding submits that “We didn’t screw up too bad,” A Bloody Show is actually a rousing success. An extra CD’s worth of Harding’s demos for the Misfortune material is included with the first 5000 copies. –Sam Graham
